15 Years of PanTech Design

Troy reminsces about the past 15 years and reflects on what PanTech Design means to him.

15 Years of PanTech Design

When I decided to start a business, I asked myself all the same questions people who start a business ask. “Will I make it? Will the business thrive? Is it the right time? What happens if…” While, there weren’t any clear answers to those questions, there was one thing that kept coming back to me. To have a successful business you need customers who come back to you for your services.

Randy Klein once asked me what letter the word ‘business’ starts with. I answered of course with ‘B’. But, he said, “No, you’re wrong! It starts with ‘R’.” I was confused by this, at first, but he explained that business is based on repeat customers. Repeat being the key. You don’t have a customer just because you made a sale. You have a customer when they’ve come back to you over and over and are happy with what you do for them.

Would I be able to turn a sale into repeat sales and end up with long term customers that allow the business to survive and thrive? I can now say after 15 years, the answer to that question is, “Yes.”

I’ve learned a lot of lessons over the years. Some of them hard learned and some easier. The harder lessons are the ones that help you go from good to great. When it’s all said and done, your customer truly is the most important thing to your business. If you make decisions with a focus on what’s best for the customer in the short and long term without losing your identity, in the process, you’ll do well for all parties involved.

I’ve been asked quite a few times, over the years, where our name came from and would like to share that with you all. Late in December of 2004, a month after my first child was born, I was sitting with a friend of mine, just tossing ideas around about the possibility of starting a business and what that business would do. We decided that the business would provide hardware and software design and engineering, and maybe someday, end up as a consulting company. What could we design? What could we write software to do and control? Well, when it comes to this industry the answer is, everything! With that in mind, here’s what PanTech Design means. The Greek god Pan was born a mature child in Arcadia; his distinct appearance (half goat, half man) delighted the hearts of all gods, which is why they named him “Pan” (meaning “all”). So, we can design all tech!

I want to personally thank all of our customers for your support over the years. It’s really because of you that we get to use our passion for this industry and apply it to innovative and creative ideas to create hardware and software solutions that people want and need. We couldn’t do that without your support which drives us to continue to innovate.

I love what I get to do! So, with all my heart, thank you for allowing us the privilege to serve and support you and this industry. We’re looking forward to many more years!
